This baton is small enough to carry without a holster while dog walking. It is long enough to reach out and zap a attacking dog as needed. This unit has 2 small prongs at the end that will aid in making contact with a dogs skin, getting past thick fur. Some look-a-like models of this baton do not have the prongs. With the side shocking strips a dog will get zapped in the mouth if he bites the baton. That will do it.
