Introducing the Taser X26c

Taser X26c

The Taser X26c is a premier law enforcement electronic control device that individuals can also own.  The Taser X26c uses a replaceable Taser cartridge containing a compressed nitrogen propulsion system to deploy two small probes that are attached to the Taser x26c by insulated wires.

The Taser X26 transmits Neuro Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) impulses through these wires affecting the sensory and motor functions of the peripheral nervous system of the remote target at distances from direct contact up to 35 feet or 10.6 meters.  The energy can penetrate up to two cumulative inches of clothing, or one inch per probe.

Since using Tasers officer injuries have dropped by 80%, suspect injuries have dropped 67%, lethal force have dropped 69%, physical confrontations is down 69% thus saving $25 million in liability costs.

What is Mace?

Mace - 10% Pepper Spray

Mace is non lethal self-defense product that uses tear gas in the form of an aerosol spray that propels a lachrymatory agent mixed with a volatile solvent.  Mace is legal in a few countries which includes the United states.

The original mace formulation is made up of 1% CN gas in a solvent of 2-butanol, cyclohexene, propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol methyl ether. Some formulations now include Oleoresin Capsicum which is the active ingredient in pepper spray.  Today mace and pepper spray are used interchangeably that when spayed irritates the eyes, skin and lungs and makes it difficult to breath.

Mace was originally manufactured by the name “Chemical Mace” by Lake Erie Chemical (a former division of Smith & Wesson) in 1962.  However, it is now a registered trademark of Mace Security International. Mace sold today by Mace Security International and other companies is actually pepper spray instead of tear gas.

What is Pepper Spray?

Pepper Spry

Pepper spray is a chemical compound that irritates the eyes to cause tears, pain, and even temporary blindness.  The chemical is a lachrymatory agent that is a less lethal agent that may be deadly in very rare instance.  The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin.  It is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilis.

According to Wikipedia, “Extraction of oleoresin capsicum from peppers involves finely ground capsicum, then the capsaicin is extracted in an organic solvent such as ethanol. The solvent is then evaporated, and the remaining waxlike resin is the oleoresin capsicum. An emulsifier such as propylene glycol is used to suspend the OC in water, and pressurized to make it aerosol in pepper spray. The high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method is used to measure the amount of capsaicin within pepper sprays. Scoville Heat Units (SHU) are used to measure the concentration or “heat” of pepper spray. Oleoresin capsicum also is used in foods where the flavor and piquancy are desired without visible pepper specks, or to standardize the Scoville units.

Pepper sprays are typically in canisters that are small enough to be carried or concealed in a pocket or purse. Pepper sprays can also be purchased concealed in items such as rings, guns, lipstick, pagers, pens, etc,.

Hidden Cameras are Getting Much Easier to Use Because of Built-in DVR

Hidden cameras are getting much easier to use.  Not too long ago you needed to have a separate recording device such as a VCR or DVD recorder to record the video whether is was wired or wireless.  Now some hidden cameras are pretty much self contained units with built in DVR  (Digital Video Recorder) that records to a SD (Secure Digital) card.

All you have to do now is place the hidden camera where you want it, plug it in, point it in the direction you want to record and hit record on a remote control.  It doesn’t get any easier than that.

To view the video, you can hook the hidden camera to a TV or computer monitor or remove the SD card and insert it into a SD card reader on your computer or an external SD card reader to view the video.

How Does a Stun Gun Work?

Stun Master SM100-C

Stun guns utilize high voltage and low amperage electrical charge to disrupt the body’s communication system thus not seriously harming the body.  The low amperage with the high voltage means there’s a lot of pressure behind the charge.  Think of a small diameter hose discharging high pressure water as opposed to a very large diameter hose with high pressure water that can kill you!

A stun gun will disrupt an attacker’s nervous system which causes the charge to combine with the electrical signals from an attacker’s brain.  This causes the attacker’s brain to not allow the muscles to move and may cause the attacker to become confused and unbalanced.  Additionally, the attacker will be temporarily partially paralyzed.

A conventional stun gun is fairly simple.  They are about the size of a flashlight and most use an ordinary 9-volt battery.  The battery supplies electricity to a simple circuit consisting of various electrical components which include multiple transformers, an oscillator, capacitor and electrodes.

The transformer can boosts the voltage in the circuit to about 20,000 and 975,000 volts, while reducing the amperage.  The oscillator fluctuates current to produce a specific pulse pattern of electricity and charges the capacitor.  The capacitor builds up a charge and releases it to the electrodes which are used to touch an attacker.
